Modern medical astrology has widely popularized a model whereby each of the 12 zodiacal signs corresponds with a part of the body. However, it is becoming increasingly evident that this system of 12 is a simplification of an earlier system. In this talk, Cameron Cassidy will harken back to an earlier Egyptian model in which rulership of the body was partitioned into 36 zones each ruled by a Decan.

An important source for this Decanic physiognomy is the Sacred Book of Hermes to Asclepius. This important Hermetic astrological text, written in Greek, dates back to Ptolemaic Egypt, though it clearly preserves an earlier tradition. The text establishes that each decan governs a body part or organ, providing a springboard for the 21st century astral mage to approach health and wellness within a magical, decanic paradigm.

The decans were understood to be far more than measures of celestial space or subdivisions of each sign. They were celestial gods in their own right who controlled the fate of all things in the world, including, of course, the body. At the conception of life, these 36 celestial spirits enter the mother’s body and construct one unique piece of the gestating fetus. For the entirety of a human being’s incarnation, these 36 gods rule and heal or send illnesses to that piece of the body, based on the positions of the planets during the conception and the birth times.

The decans’ decrees for their 36 parts of the body are not set in stone. Each Decan, by sympathy, antipathy or theurgy may be invoked in order to restore balance, health and peace into that area of the body, as well as in that corresponding sector of the horoscope, and its area of the life. In hermetic philosophy, all three aspects function together, as the body, the primary instrument of life, synergizes and regulates the expression of one’s fate through its own healing, Decan by Decan.

Join us for an exciting conversation about the anatomical melothesia of the Decans, as well as strategies and remedies to work with dispositions toward imbalance in the natal or conception horoscope.
